Chasing the Clouds

Chasing the Clouds
By J. Renae Conlee

Here I go again, chasing those clouds on the horizon
Always in pursuit of the storm that I know will hit

The enticing sound of the thunder
The thrilling danger of the lightning
That will bring me to my knees when it strikes my heart
I know there will be trouble, know that it will hurt
But I won't turn back towards the sun, towards the safety of daylight
I'll keep chasing those clouds as long as I can
No one told me that the silver lining was made of tin.

Lost Soul

A restless spirit wants to fly
Grounded, held to earth
By responsibilities that keep the body here
The restless spirit wants to dance
Wants to kiss a stranger
Wants to do something dangerous
The head is in the clouds, the soul wants to live
But the feet are planted firmly in the ground
Aching to dance, aching to run
But no where to go, no one to go with.

Resilient

Resilient

I refuse to fall.

No, my darling, I won't go down.
You're still standing and so shall I
Remain firm.
You haven't asked for my heart

And so I keep it locked tight
Though I can feel it beating wildly
Trying to escape from these walls I've built.
No, it won't come out.
You have the key, but do you realize it?
Did you know that with a simple phrase
An admission of the feelings you hide so well
That the door will swing open and
My heart will run to you.
But you don't turn the key
You keep it in a dark dusty corner
And forget that it's there
So my heart stays where it is
And I stay silent.

You think on it and feel scared, but you don't know why.

You think on it and feel scared, but you don't know why.

"They're in a better place," they say of those who's presence no longer lingers with us, at least not physically.

Yes, a better place. Heaven? Paradise? Or simply in the ground, no longer burdened with the physical stress that life holds.

So if we're all destined for a better place, then why are we so scared?

You ponder, perhaps it is not death, for death is nothing to be scared of if it truly leads to a better place. No, it's the pain that might accompany death, for we do not get to choose how we leave the mortal realm.

We strive to keep living, though every day we cry that living is too hard, that maybe it's not worth it, and yet, we don't wish to die, and we mourn those who have gone before.

But if life is so much better on the other side, perhaps death is something to aspire to.....to live life fully, beautifully, to love and grieve and hope and fear and laugh and cry, so that when death ascends, you can go, knowing that life was well-lived.
